2017 Back to School Cookout

Monday August 21, 2017 the Jasper County Mentor Program held the annual Back to School Event. This year's event was held at Washington Park Elementary School. Mentors, mentees, and their families all gathered for a laid back and fun cookout to celebrate the kickoff of the new school year.

All of those in attendance enjoyed games, the playgrounds, hot dogs, hamburgers, conversations, and most of all each others company.

South Eastern Railway Museum Field Trip

Saturday, November 18, 2017 the Jasper County Mentor Program traveled to The Southeastern Railway Museum. Where mentees and mentors got to tour and learn about different type of travel through the years. They got to see all types of buses, trains, Marta buses, and more.

Mentees and mentors also go to visit with Santa, enjoy a train ride around the park, and enjoy The Varsity for lunch. "What'll ya have?"

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway Field Trip

Saturday, May 5, 2018 the Jasper County Mentor Program traveled to the North Georgia Mountains for a one of a kind trip. Mentors and mentees traveled to Blue Ridge, GA where we boarded a train on The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and experienced a very peaceful and scenic route.

The train drove all in attendance to McCaysville, Ga on a 1 hour train ride. Once we arrived in McCaysville, Ga we were apple to enjoy the shops, rivers, and touristy things that the city of McCaysville had to offer. We enjoyed a fabulous lunch prepared for us by The Copper Grill.

This train ride and the town of McCaysville is known for being the best place in Georgia to be in two places at once. We couldn't pass up an opportunity to join in on the fun of that! Check out our pictures to see some of our mentees and mentors getting to experience this.

After, lunch, site seeing, ice cream, and enjoying the unique shops we got back on the train and made our way back to Blue Ridge. Before loading the bus for the trip back home some students enjoyed shopping while otheres enjoyed taking in the view of this quaint little town.
